DAVAO CITY – One last tournament. One final push. And a season’s worth of ambition hanging in the balance.

The Ladies Philippine Golf Tour’s 2026 campaign reaches its peak today as the ICTSI Apo Golf Classic blasts off at Apo Golf and Country Club, where the battle for the P1.25-million championship will be matched by an equally compelling fight for the coveted Order of Merit crown.

For Yvon Bisera, it is a chance to erase the sting of recent setbacks and validate a season of hard work with the biggest prize of all. For Tiffany Lee and Harmie Constantino, it is one final opportunity to strengthen their respective title bids, while Chanelle Avaricio hopes to cap another consistent campaign with a late surge that could give her a backdoor shot at the season honors.

With the campaign down to its final regular-tour stop, the Apo championship promises a high-stakes showdown where fortunes could shift, contenders could rise and the OOM race could be decided in dramatic fashion.

The stakes extend beyond the leading protagonists. The 24-player field is out to seize its share of the spotlight, build momentum and gain a timely confidence boost ahead of next month’s Match Play Championship at Anvaya Cove Golf Club in Bataan, the tour’s season-ending special event.

But the spotlight will fall squarely on Bisera, Lee, Constantino, and Avaricio, whose contrasting campaigns have set up a compelling battle of nerve, skill and resolve.

And Apo is hardly a venue for the fainthearted.

Its tight fairways, strategically placed hazards, thick rough and undulating surfaces demand more than raw power. Precision off the tee, accuracy into the greens, sound course management and a steady putting touch will be essential, with even the slightest lapse capable of turning a promising round into a costly struggle.

Following the South Pacific leg, Bisera continues to lead the OOM standings with P620,400, followed by Lee with P583,350. Rounding out the top five are Constantino with P537,100, Avaricio with P504,850, and reigning OOM titlist Sarah Ababa with P418,950.

Bisera knows better than most what it takes to win this season. She surged to the top of the OOM standings with contrasting victories at the opening leg at Lakewood and the Pradera Verde championship, only to see her momentum checked by runner-up finishes at Summit Point and Pueblo de Oro, followed by a fourth-place effort at South Pacific Golf Club, her home course.

Now, she gets another shot at redemption – and at turning a season of sustained excellence into an OOM breakthrough.

Lee, meanwhile, has emerged as a serious threat late in the campaign. Her victory at Pueblo de Oro and runner-up finish at South Pacific have thrust her into the OOM conversation, setting up a potentially defining week. Another triumph at Apo could fuel her late charge and put her in contention for a first career OOM crown as a young professional.

“Apo is definitely the decisive factor. Winning will be crucial in deciding the Order of Merit race,” said Lee. “The course is very challenging, too, with several holes playing longer than our previous tournament.”

She emphasized the need for accuracy with longer clubs, noting that the elevated greens will make up-and-downs much tougher.

“I think a strong strategy is essential to stay in contention,” said Lee, adding, “The greens here are firmer, making it harder to attack. I’ll need to avoid the aggressive shots I usually play and just play smarter.”

“Winning here would be a great honor. It would bring me to the top of the OOM, which has been my dream ever since I turned pro,” she said.

Constantino is also refusing to surrender her title hopes despite a recent dip in form. After romping to victory at Caliraya Springs, she tied for second at Pinewoods and placed third at Pradera Verde. A joint ninth-place finish at Summit Point interrupted her run before she rebounded with a fifth-place showing at Pueblo de Oro and another third-place finish at South Pacific last week.

She now has one more opportunity to rediscover her winning touch, finish the season on a high and reclaim the OOM crown.

Ababa, meanwhile, is chasing a different kind of breakthrough. After losing to Bisera in sudden death at Lakewood, she has struggled to mount another serious title challenge, finishing fourth at Caliraya Springs, fifth at Pinewoods and third at Summit Point before placing fourth at Pueblo de Oro and tying for ninth at South Pacific.

Yet the reigning OOM champion remains determined to avoid a winless campaign, with a victory at Apo offering a fitting way to salvage her season and restore her winning form.

This tournament is very important to me, and I want to come away with a good result. But I have to play my best and stay consistent. I need to hit solid tee shots, manage the course well and avoid big mistakes because every shot counts, especially when the competition is tight,” said Ababa in Filipino, who will bank not only on her familiarity with the demanding layout but also on the full support of her family.

“Winning here would mean a lot to me, especially with my family here to support me. Having them around is truly motivating, particularly in a tournament as important as this one,” Ababa said.

Still, she is not letting the OOM race weigh on her, choosing instead to focus on the task at hand.

“My focus is on taking it one shot at a time. I trust my preparation, stay positive and pray for guidance,” she added.

Ababa believes maintaining consistency throughout the three-day tournament will be her biggest challenge.

“Mistakes are inevitable in golf, but what matters most is how I recover from them. I need to be patient, stay focused and not let one bad hole affect the rest of my round,” she added.

Then there is Avaricio, whose consistency has kept her firmly in the picture despite missing several key LPGT events to honor commitments on regional tours. Those campaigns have provided valuable opportunities to sharpen her all-around game, and a strong finish at Apo could give her a late opening in the season-long race.

“Winning at Apo would be a huge boost. I’m just focusing on playing my best,” said Avaricio, who is prioritizing consistency, patience, and smart course management. “I just need to trust my game and capitalize on the opportunities that come my way.”

She also stressed the need to adjust to the course conditions after competing on the wider South Pacific layout, emphasizing smart play and strict adherence to her game plan.

“The goal is to stay patient and take it one shot at a time,” Avaricio added. “But there’s still a lot of golf left to play.”

Lurking behind the main contenders is a formidable cast eager to disrupt the script. Mafy Singson, Princess Superal, Chihiro Ikeda, Daniela Uy, Pamela Mariano, Rev Alcantara, Martina Miñoza, Marvi Monsalve and Kim Seoyun are among those looking to break through and spoil the favorites’ plans.
