Ilocos Norte Tourism Gala recognized tourism industry leaders

The 2022 Ilocos Norte Tourism Gala of the Provincial Government of Ilocos Norte (PGIN) on May 1, at the Malacañang ti Amianan, recognized the hard work and dedication of tourism industry leaders, highlighting this year the resilience, innovation, and excellence of stakeholders in the midst of the continuing COVID-19 pandemic.

Attended by local officials, headed by Governor Matthew Marcos Manotoc, including officers of tourism associations, industry professionals and pioneers, and attractions managers, tour operators, accommodation providers, and business owners, among others, the Gala likewise encouraged all stakeholders to meet or exceed industry standards and play an integral role in rewarding innovation, professionalism, and collaboration.

Specifically, PGINs’ Ilocos Norte Tourism Office honored nearly a hundred individuals, corporations, and businesses that supported the reopening of tourism in Ilocos Norte, provided free transportation to frontliners at the height of the pandemic, donated meals and protective equipment, and hotels and resorts that were temporarily converted to COVID-19 quarantine facilities.

“Despite the great difficulties of the past two and a half years, I am proud and happy to see all of us here together with a renewed hope for our shared future,” Gov. Marcos Manotoc said.

Through his leadership, PGIN recently institutionalized discounts for bulk purchases of tickets for establishments such as the Malacañang ti Amianan and all those operated by PGIN to maximize profits for local tourism businesses.

He proceeded to highlight Ilocos Norte’s investments in its newest attractions, namely, the Paoay Lake Water Park, Tanap-Avis Falls, installation arts at the Paoay Sand Dunes, and the Ilocos Norte Inabel Weaving Center. Also recently, PGIN secured funding from the national government for the upgrading of the Laoag International Airport.

The event also highlighted the 38% increase in tourist arrivals during the recent Holy Week break, compared to the same period in 2019 before the pandemic, which gives tourism stakeholders hope for a more stable recovery of the sector.

“To each and every tourism stakeholder, allow me to reassure you that I am with you. I will listen to you. And I will support you. May we continue to work together towards establishing Ilocos Norte as a premier tourism destination in the country.

For the sake of our kakailian and the families and people who rely on this powerhouse industry. The best is yet to come”Gov. Marcos Manotoc ended.
