DOT, other stakeholders welcome Air Asia’s Inaugural Flight to Zamboanga

The Department of Tourism Regional Office 9, City Government of Zamboanga, Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines and Zamboanga City Chamber of Commerce and Industry Foundation Incorporated welcomed the arrival of Air Asia Philippines Flight Z2651 from Manila to Zamboanga City at 3:05 in the afternoon on October 27, 2020.

The Department of Tourism represented by its Mindanao Affairs Assistant Secretary Myra Paz Valderrosa-Abubakar (representing Secretary Bernadette Romulo Puyat), City Officials headed by Mayor Maria Isabelle Climaco-Salazar, Vice Mayor Romel Agan, City Tourism Officer Sarita Sebastian-Hernandez, CAAP Area IX Manager Antonio Alfonso and Zamboanga Business Chamber represented by Pedro Rufo Soliven warmly greeted Air Asia Philippines team as they successfully landed in Zamboanga City.

The Inaugural Flight was also a homecoming event for the crew on board who were all from Zamboanga, from the Pilot down to the Flight Attendants.

The Inaugural Flight Ceremony was held at the arrival hall of the Zamboanga International Airport right after the maiden flight to Zamboanga. The ceremony was hosted by Air Asia Philippines Spokesperson Steve Dailisan who acknowledged the presence of the different government officials, representatives from stakeholders, and members of media.

The Chief Executive Officer of Air Asia Philippines Ricky Isla promoted that Air Asia now offers low-cost domestic flights from Manila to Zamboanga two times a week, every Tuesday and Saturday. CEO Isla expressed his gratitude and gave an assurance that Air Asia will be opening more flights and more businesses in the future.

The Air Asia Chairman of the Board Atty. Jomar Castillo committed in offering affordable products and services for passengers especially the Locally Stranded Individuals (LSI’s) who were greatly affected during the pandemic.

Air Asia Philippines has also partnered with some of the DOT Accredited Accommodation Establishments of Zamboanga City to offer Airfare and Accommodation Discounts for a 2-night 3-day stay.

Deemed as “The World’s Best Low-Cost Airline for 11 Years”, the Air Asia Philippines Inaugural Flight to Zamboanga paved the way for an expansive connectivity to Mindanao that will definitely boost the tourism industry amidst pandemic.
