Marriott International, Inc. has signed an agreement with KS Hotels and Resorts for two hotels on Khao Lak’s coast, Matalay, a new 200-hectare destination where tranquil beaches, lakes, mountains, rainforests and Thailand’s most famous surf break are woven together in a breathtaking tapestry of nature.
Moxy Khao Lak Memories Beach and Matalay Khao Lak, Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, expected to be the brand’s first in Thailand will sit on Memories Beach at Matalay’s northern end. To the south, a new 3 km dedicated jogging and cycling track meandering through lush forests and lakes will connect the award-winning JW Marriott Khao Lak Resort & Spa to Matalay, featuring 1.4 km of pristine beachfront.
“We are pleased to once again collaborate with KS Hotels and Resorts on these two new signings. Matalay is a ground-breaking development that will elevate Phang Nga from a tourist resort to a holistic lifestyle destination. For two of our brands to be at the heart of this township, including Thailand’s first Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy, reflects the strength of our relationship with KS Hotels and Resorts. We look forward to working together to introduce new brands and destinations for travelers,” said Rajeev Menon, President, Asia Pacific excluding China, Marriott International.
Moxy Khao Lak Memories Beach, the brand’s first in Southern Thailand, will bring Moxy Hotels’ social spirit to the Memories surf village next door, with retro design that nods to surfing’s early days. The hotel is expected to feature 160 playful rooms surrounding a freeform pool, with the Moxy Bar & Restaurant, pool and beach bars, an expansive gym and a beachfront events lawn.
Matalay Khao Lak, Apartments by Marriott Bonvoy is slated to offer 60 two-bedroom apartments of 110 sqm for longer stays, each with a full kitchen and washer-dryer. These spacious resort-style residences with pool access or ocean views will allow families or digital nomads a home away from home experience surrounded by Khao Lak’s unspoiled coastline and lush hinterland.
Beyond the hotels’ experiences, guests can look forward to exploring the destination: surf lessons alongside Khao Lak’s local surf community, kayaking on the multiple lakes and lagoons, forest bathing and other wellness facilities, experience the local community conservation efforts, a 36-hole mini-golf course, live music at the beach bars and an array of dining experiences.
Both hotels will be 75 minutes by road from Phuket International Airport, which is being expanded, expected to handle 18 million passengers a year by 2029.
