Today’s Crown-of-Thorns (COT) starfish removal activity is designed to help prevent damage to coral ecosystems and keep Camiguin’s underwater life thriving. Crown-of-Thorns starfish feed on coral, and when their populations increase, reef health can decline quickly.

By addressing the issue early during the diving season, DOT 10 and the province support a healthier marine environment for both biodiversity and sustainable tourism. The activity also supports the DOT’s 𝘋𝘪𝘴𝘤𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘔𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘰 𝘓𝘰𝘷𝘦 campaign, reinforcing the message that experiencing nature also means caring for it.
The effort is carried out with support from partners including Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR), Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and local stakeholders, working together to strengthen reef stewardship in Camiguin waters.
