ASEAN’s five-year tourism roadmap to spur regional transformation

The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) has formally signed into force its five-year successor tourism blueprint to further regional cooperation and transformation post-pandemic.

Launched in Cebu on last week as part of the highly anticipated events of the ASEAN Tourism Forum (ATF) 2026, the ASEAN Sectoral Plan (ATSP) 2026-2030 is succeeds the ATSP 2016-2025 and marks the region’s renewed tourism cooperation and development, with the Philippines as the Lead Country Coordinator.

“The ASEAN Tourism Sectoral Plan will serve as the framework for sustainable tourism development across the region from 2026 to 2030. The Philippines was privileged to have been selected as lead country coordinator in taking the surveys for the plan, devising the plan in partnership with Asian Development Bank and the ASEAN Secretariat,” Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said in an interview with state media.

The strategic plan outlines the region’s collective vision and plans for a sustainable and inclusive tourism industry, structured around five interrelated focus areas: resilient tourism, empowerment of the tourism workforce, accessible and seamless travel, digital tourism, product, and market diversification, and sustainable tourism.

According to the Philippine tourism chief, the application of the identified pillars will specifically see the region first being marketed as a unified tourism destination, and also to make ASEAN’s reach easier in terms of accessibility by air and sea among travelers.
