Emirates marks 35 years in Philippines, honors pasalubong tradition

Emirates is celebrating 35 years of connecting the Philippines to the world with a nod to one of the country’s most cherished traditions: pasalubong

Rooted in the word salubong, or “to welcome,” pasalubong symbolizes the joy of reunion with family and friends after time apart.

To honor this tradition, Emirates is sharing pasalubong-inspired anniversary boxes as a tribute to the spirit of homecoming and connection that unites Filipinos around the world.

The anniversary boxes take inspiration from the balikbayan tradition, which reflects the practice of overseas Filipinos bringing home treats and essentials for their loved ones. Inside are items that highlight the airline’s global identity and its regard for Filipino culture.

Among the items is locally made Auro Chocolate, crafted from fine Filipino cacao beans sourced directly from local farmers, highlighting Emirates’ support for community livelihoods and Filipino craftsmanship.

The box also includes select Emirates keepsakes such as a Christmas stocking, luggage tag, notebook, passport cover and airplane magnet, along with a Ghaf Tree notecard that represents resilience and unity in the UAE.

Since launching its first Manila service in 1990, Emirates has carried millions of passengers between the Philippines and its global network, which now spans more than 140 destinations.

The airline currently operates 28 weekly flights to the Philippines, offering around 22,700 seats each week and linking Filipino travelers, overseas workers and businesses to key international markets.

This anniversary celebration pays tribute to every journey home, every reunion made possible and every story of connection that brings families together and keeps ties to home aliv
