Speaking at the first ever Philippine Tourism Awards held at Okada Manila on Monday, September 8, Department of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco underscored the role of honorees in elevating global standards for the industry.
โIt is in this spirit that the awards we confer today carry such meaning. All of you here are being honored because you have raised the standards of our industry and proven that Filipino hospitality is our gift to the world. You are the bearers of the good of our country, showing through your work your compassion, your creativity, and your grace define the true face of the Philippines. Your triumph is not yours alone, for it is also the triumph of the communities you uplift and the lives you transform.โ
The Tourism Pillar Awards honored 17 enterprises that laid the foundations of Philippine tourism, pioneers and institutions operating over the years.
Tourism Pillar Individuals awarded 30 pioneers whose legacies in tourism have been a source of inspiration, including three posthumous awards were also among those conferred.
Meanwhile, Special Pillar Excellence Awards were given to Philippine Airlines, The Manila Hotel, the Philippine Travel Agencies Association, and the University of the Philippines โ Asian Institute of Tourism.
โAs we celebrate your success, we are reminded as well of the higher duty that it confers. This inaugural Philippine Tourism Awards is not only a recognition of excellence, but also a call to commitment: a commitment to unify in a time of deep division, a commitment to excellence in the face of fierce competition, and a commitment to sustainability so that our environment and heritage endure for generations to come,โ the Tourism Chief added.
Secretary Frasco was joined in presenting the awards by Undersecretary Shahlimar Hofer Tamano and Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) COO Margarita Nograles.
