Where to play golf in Baguio City under MGCQ?

The pandemic has affected all sorts of sports, and that includes golf.  It restricted, if not totally halted, traveling from one place to another place or  from region to  region.  Fortunately for golf enthusiasts, residing in Baguio City, they don’t have to look further to play golf for  the  City has golf courses to choose from. The country’s Summer Capital is also considering opening its tourism to non-Baguio residents, thru “bubble tourism.” With this, tourists from neighboring provinces, would be able to visit or play golf in Baguio.  Now, whether “bubble tourism” will push thru or not, one thing is sure, Baguio residents can now play golf.  Actually, all  golf courses in Baguio have already resumed their operations since the City has been in Modified General Community Quarantine (MGCQ) status few months back.

Health protocols are  strictly being implemented in Baguio City.  Golf courses also have their own set of  health  protocols, like: no mask, no entry; maintain social distancing; tee time reservation is normally required;   limit on the number per flight and limit on caddies per flight, and others.   

Obviously one thing that attracts tourists to this Summer Capital of the Philippines is the weather, but many also visit this place, especially for golfers, is to play golf because the City also hosts  to three scenic golf courses in the Philippines. So, read on the list.

  1. Pineswood  Golf and Country Club

Developed and being managed by Sta. Lucia Land, Inc., this 18-hole championship golf course is designed by Gary Player. It is a part of a 220 hectare  master planned country estate developed in American-colonial Architecture theme that sits on a mountaintops.  So playing in this course gives  players the panoramic view of the City and experience the cold breeze that Baguio is known for. It also gives you access to other amenities in the area, like, the tennis court, practice range,restaurants, clubhouse, and swimming pool to name a few.

Golfers will not only enjoy their favorite game here, but also the scenery, thanks to overlooking Cordillera mountain range and the pine trees that can be seen every where from the golf course. The usual amenities of a golf club are available in this scenic venue, like, practice range, coffee shop, restaurant, bar, locker rooms with showers to name a few. For those who play other than golf, the tennis court and bowling alley could be the options for them.

2. Camp Johh Hay Golf Club

Designed by Jack Nicklaus,  this 18 hole golf course is one the major facilities inside the Camp John Hay.  The panoramic pine trees and the cold breeze  plus the lush green grass provide golfers an overwhelming experience. The country’s only bentgrass greens will prove to be the ultimate golfing challenge and are the things golfing lore are made of. It’s  elegant log-architecture Clubhouse is the ultimate venue for relaxation and dining with its spectacular views and gardenlike setting.

3. Baguio Country Club

The last but not the least is Baguio Country Club (BCC). Founded in 1905, BCC has a very rich history. It is witnessed to Philippines’ struggles against Spain then to American occupation. With a history dating back to 1905, the Baguio Country Club is one of the most famous historical establishment in the Summer Capital City, and one of the most revered exclusive membership clubs in the Philippines. In its century of existence, the Baguio Country Club has catered to many of the most prestigious names in the Philippine society and played host to numerous noteworthy gatherings.  BCC boasts of its family and business oriented establishment, amidst serene, picturesque and romantic scenery. It has attracted the country’s who’s who, withstood the challenges of time, and transformed itself into a place where its patrons get a remarkable treatment.

The Golf Course has three (3) lagoons located at hole #7, #11, and #6. Each lagoon had a depth of 8.5 feet. This serves as water hazard for the playing golfers an a water irrigation supply to the whole course. The type of grasses usually propagated are the following: Korean grass, Bermuda grass and Carabao grass. Every variety of grasses are propagated on designated nursery inside the course. Korean grass and Carabao grass are usually planted on tee boxes and Bermuda grass are planted on greens.
