The white-sand island of Lampinigan in Isabela de Basilan is set for development into a vibrant tourist destination through the Lampinigan S.A.N.D.S.: The Jetty Port and Leisure Development Project, which won first place in the Tourism Champions Challenge (TCC) โ Mindanao category.
The Department of Tourism (DOT), the local government of Isabela City, and the TIEZA – Tourism Infrastructure and Enterprise Zone Authority formally signed a memorandum of agreement on Wednesday (Oct. 29) at Fuego Fuego Beach Resort, to mark the start of construction for the winning tourism project.
Backed by a โฑ25-million project fund, Lampinigan SANDS, once completed, will soon feature a jetty port for improved access, a 200-meter trail, campsite, reception pavilion, viewing deck, and visitor facilities such as cottages, restrooms, showers, dressing rooms, huts, a restaurant, and an outdoor kitchen.
Roughly a 40-minute boat ride from mainland Isabela City, Lampinigan offers an idyllic escape with its white sand, clear blue waters, and striking rock formations.
Under Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frascoโs leadership, the TCC stands as one of the DOTโs flagship programs, rewarding LGUs for innovative, sustainable tourism proposals that deliver maximum benefits to visitors, local communities, and the broader tourism landscape.
