The Department of Tourism (DOT), led by Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco formally inaugurated the first Tourist Rest Area (TRA) in the SOCCSKSARGEN region on Friday (August 22). The tourism chief was joined by Sultan Kudarat Governor Pax Mangudadatu and other local officials.
Strategically located within the Sultan Kudarat Economic Zone along the National Highway in Barangay EJC Montilla, Tacurong City, the facility serves as a vital stopover for travelers going to and from Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM), Cotabato City and Province, South Cotabato, and General Santos City. It also supports the tourism circuits of Tacurong City and Sultan Kudarat Province, which are home to attractions such as the Baras Bird Sanctuary, La Palmera Mountain Ridge, and the iconic Provincial Capitol.
Recognizing Sultan Kudaratโs role as the countryโs top coffee producer, the Provincial Government launched the โCoffee Experience in the Tourist Rest Areaโ initiative, celebrating the provinceโs rich agricultural heritage. With over 20,000 hectares of flourishing farmsโmostly managed by smallholder familiesโSultan Kudarat is the leading producer of Robusta beans, while also cultivating Arabica and specialty varieties.
The Provincial Government is offering free coffee to all TRA visitors for the entire first month of operations, making every stop not just a pause, but a memorable immersion in Sultan Kudaratโs flavor and identity.
